Expansion joints and flexible connectors supplied from stock in Dubai

We hold rubber and metallic expansion joints, braided flexible connectors and the clamps and supports that go with them, from 1” through 12” in PN 10, PN 16 and Class 150.

Pipework moves. It expands when it heats, it shakes when a pump runs, and it never quite lines up with the equipment flange. An expansion joint absorbs all three. Left out, that movement goes into the flanged joints, the pump mountings and eventually the pipe itself.

Rubber or metallic

Rubber expansion joints — single and twin sphere with steel backing flanges — handle vibration isolation and generous lateral and angular movement at moderate temperature. They are the standard fitting either side of a pump and at chiller connections.

Metallic expansion joints — stainless 304 and 316 bellows to EJMA — handle high temperature and higher pressure, which is where steam, exhaust and hot process lines need them.

EPDM or nitrile

EPDM for water, chilled water and hot water service. NBR (nitrile) for oil, fuel and hydrocarbons. Putting EPDM on an oil line swells the elastomer and fails the joint — it is one of the most common and most avoidable specification errors on site.

Braided flexible connectors

Stainless 304 and 316 braided connectors, flanged from 1” to 8” and threaded from 1/2” to 2”, for pump connections, equipment tie-ins and anywhere a rigid connection would transmit vibration or fight a small misalignment.

Control rods and anchoring

On unanchored pipework, pressure thrust will try to extend a rubber joint to destruction. Control rods limit the travel and contain that thrust. Tell us the working pressure and whether the line is anchored, and we will advise whether rods belong on the order.

Clamps, hangers and supports

U-bolts, pipe clamps, rubber-lined clamps, split ring hangers and strut channel fittings in zinc plated and hot-dip galvanised finish, so the supports are quoted alongside the joint rather than chased afterwards.

What to specify when requesting a quote

Nominal size, flange standard and drilling, pressure rating, the medium and temperature, the movement you need to absorb — axial, lateral or angular — and whether control rods are required.

Common Questions

Expansion Joints — frequently asked

What does an expansion joint actually do?
It absorbs thermal movement, isolates vibration and accommodates small misalignment between two connected components. On a pump or chiller it stops vibration travelling into the pipework, which protects both the joints and the equipment mountings.
Should I use a rubber or a metallic expansion joint?
Rubber handles vibration isolation and larger lateral movement at moderate temperature, which is why it is standard on pumps and chilled water. Metallic bellows handle high temperature and higher pressure, such as steam and exhaust. Tell us the medium and temperature.
EPDM or nitrile for a rubber expansion joint?
EPDM for water, chilled water and hot water. Nitrile (NBR) for oil, fuel and hydrocarbon service, where EPDM would swell and fail. Using EPDM on an oil line is a common and expensive mistake.
Do expansion joints need control rods?
Control rods limit the maximum extension and stop the joint over-extending under pressure thrust, which is important on unanchored pipework. Tell us the pressure and whether the line is anchored and we will advise whether rods should be included.
Do you supply pipe clamps and hangers to match?
Yes. U-bolts, pipe clamps, rubber-lined clamps, split ring hangers and strut channel fittings are held in zinc plated and hot-dip galvanised finishes, so the support system is quoted with the joint.
