GI pipe supplied from stock in Dubai
We hold hot-dip galvanised steel pipe to BS 1387 and BS EN 10255 in light, medium and heavy grades, from 1/2” through 6”, threaded and socketed or plain end.
GI pipe is what goes in when the line carries water and has to last in a climate that turns bare steel to rust in a season. Plumbing risers, firefighting feeds, compressed air, irrigation mains — it threads, it takes a malleable fitting, and the zinc does the work.
Classes: light, medium, heavy
BS 1387 defines three wall thicknesses. Light (Class A) for low pressure and non-critical duty. Medium (Class B) is the general standard for plumbing and firefighting and is our deepest stock. Heavy (Class C) for higher pressure, and for runs that are threaded deeply enough that the remaining wall becomes the limiting factor.
Threaded and socketed, or plain end
Threaded and socketed (T&S) arrives with BSP threads cut and a socket on one end, ready to make up with GI fittings. Plain end is for grooving, welding or site threading. Tell us which you need — arriving with the wrong end preparation costs a day on site.
Hot-dip against pre-galvanised
Hot-dip galvanised pipe is coated after forming, so zinc covers the weld seam and the bore. Pre-galvanised tube is rolled from pre-coated strip and leaves the seam bare. For water service and any outdoor installation, specify hot-dip — the seam is exactly where a pre-galvanised tube will fail first.

GI Pipes — frequently asked
- What is the difference between light, medium and heavy GI pipe?
- They are wall thickness classes to BS 1387 — Class A light, Class B medium and Class C heavy. Medium is the general standard for plumbing and firefighting. Heavy is specified for higher pressure duty or where the pipe is threaded deeply and the remaining wall matters.
- Do you supply GI pipe threaded and socketed?
- Yes. Pipe is supplied threaded and socketed (T&S) with BSP threads, or plain end for grooving and welding. Say which you need — a plain end delivery on a threaded installation costs a day.
- Can GI pipe be used for potable water?
- Galvanised steel is widely used on cold water service across the UAE within the relevant local authority approval. Confirm the specification with your consultant, since some potable schemes now require different materials for long-term service.
- Do you cut GI pipe to length?
- Yes, cut and rethreaded to your list from stock, usually same or next working day. Give us the bore, the lengths and whether you need the cut ends threaded.
- What is the difference between hot-dip and pre-galvanised tube?
- Hot-dip galvanised pipe is coated after forming, so the coating covers the weld seam and the inside of the tube. Pre-galvanised tube is rolled from already-coated strip and has an uncoated seam. For water service and outdoor use, specify hot-dip.
