Grooved fittings and couplings supplied from stock in Dubai
We hold ductile iron grooved couplings and fittings to ASTM A536 from 1” through 12” — rigid and flexible couplings, elbows, tees, mechanical tees, reducers, caps and flange adaptors, with EPDM or nitrile gaskets.
Grooved is the mechanical alternative to welding, and on a chilled water riser or a sprinkler main it is simply faster: no hot work permit, no welder, no radiography, and a joint that two fitters can make up in minutes and break again for maintenance.
Rigid or flexible
A rigid coupling clamps the grooved ends so the joint behaves structurally like a welded connection. Use it where the pipework must stay aligned and carry load.
A flexible coupling permits a controlled amount of angular deflection and axial movement. That absorbs thermal expansion on long chilled water runs, tolerates building settlement, and isolates pump vibration before it travels through the whole system. On most projects both appear — rigid on the risers, flexible at the plant.
Gaskets
EPDM is the standard grade for water, chilled water and fire protection, and handles elevated temperature well. Nitrile is specified for oil, fuel and compressed air, where hydrocarbons would attack EPDM. Getting this wrong destroys the gasket quietly and then all at once.
Fire protection approvals
FM approved and UL listed grooved products are supplied where the civil defence authority or fire consultant requires them. Say so on the enquiry — the approved range and the general-purpose range look similar and are not interchangeable on a signed-off fire system.
Grooving the pipe
Grooved fittings need the pipe end prepared: roll grooved on standard wall, cut grooved on heavier wall. Confirm the pipe schedule when you enquire so the couplings match the groove dimension.
Who buys grooved products from us
Firefighting contractors on sprinkler and wet riser installations. HVAC contractors on chilled water. Plumbing and utilities teams. Facilities crews making a repair without a hot work permit.
What to specify when requesting a quote
Nominal size, rigid or flexible, gasket material, and the pipe schedule you are grooving. Say whether the job needs FM or UL approved product, and give the quantity per line.
Common Questions
Grooved Fittings & Couplings — frequently asked
- What is the difference between a rigid and a flexible grooved coupling?
- A rigid coupling clamps the pipe ends so the joint behaves like a welded connection with no movement. A flexible coupling allows a small amount of angular deflection and linear movement, which accommodates thermal expansion, building settlement and vibration from pumps.
- Which gasket should I specify, EPDM or nitrile?
- EPDM is the standard for water, chilled water and fire protection and handles hot water well. Nitrile is specified for oil, fuel and air service where hydrocarbons would degrade EPDM. Tell us the medium and the temperature and we will confirm.
- Do grooved couplings need the pipe to be pre-grooved?
- Yes. The pipe end must be roll-grooved or cut-grooved to the correct dimension for the coupling. Roll grooving suits standard wall pipe; cut grooving is used on heavier wall. Confirm the pipe schedule so we supply couplings matched to the groove specification.
- Are your grooved products approved for fire protection?
- FM approved and UL listed grooved products are supplied where the fire authority requires them. Tell us on the enquiry that the job is fire protection and we will quote the approved range rather than the general-purpose equivalent.
- Can I connect grooved pipework to a flanged valve?
- Yes, using a grooved flange adaptor, which bolts to a standard ASME B16.5 Class 150 flange on one side and takes a grooved pipe end on the other. These are held from 2" to 12".
